Members of South Caucasus Youth Parliament Visit European Institutions in Brussels

On 25-30 June, 2012 study visit to Brussels for the members of the South Caucasus Youth Parliament took place. Scheduled program was loaded with a number of high rank meetings and informative events. On 26 June, members of the Youth Parliament had an opportunity to meet Mrs. Amanda Paul, Policy Analyst and Program Executive at European Policy Centre. They were introduced to the projects and general activities of the European Police Centre. Young MPs were hosted by Elisabeth Sandfuchs, Research associate, multinational dialogue on development policy at Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

Youth Parliament met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to the Kingdom of Belgium H.E. Avet Adonts. Ambassador reviewed main tasks and duties of Armenian Embassy in Belgium. Young MPs visited European Parliament. Mr. George Stylianou from Public Relations Division gave a presentation on history, structure, duties and functions of the European Parliament. On 27th of June members of the Youth Parliament met with Mr. Petr Lunak, Deputy Head of Partnership Section, Public Diplomacy Division and Mrs. Despina Afentouli, Caucusus Regional Coordinator at NAT HQ in Brussels. The same day meeting with European Youth Forum was organised. 

On the 28th young MPs presented the joint resolution to the member of European Parliament, Vice President of the European Peoples’ Party, Mrs. Corien Wortmann-Kool.  The same day members of the Youth Parliament had a chance to visit the Secretariat General of the BeNeLux. Secretary General of the BeNeLux hosted the youth of the South Caucasus and made a presentation about the history and idea of creation of union of three countries and functions of Secretariat General of the BeNeLux.  Participants were transferred to SH.A.P.E (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) the Headquarters of Allied Command Operations (ACO), one of NATO's two strategic military commands. Colonel Dariusz Kacperczyk gave presentation on NATO structure, functions of Allied Commend Operations department. On the 29th of June Minister Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium Mr. David Solomonia hosted Armenian and Georgian youth at the Georgian Embassy.
